Norfolk award-winning writer’s ‘excellent’ new book

Added: (Thu May 05 2022)

Pressbox (Press Release) - It has taken a career in screen- and magazine article writing for G C McGhee to come full circle and finally publish a novel.
The 62-year-old award-winning scribe from Norfolk has earned plaudits galore for his short stories and non-fiction articles, as well as television and film scripts.
But publishing a novel had remained on the ‘to do’ list until he finally took the plunge last year and turned a pilot script into his first full-length book to hit the shelves.
Andromono has so far been described by critics as ‘excellent’, ‘wonderfully written’ and ‘escapism at its best’.
But G C admits it has taken a lot of writing before he finally gained the confidence to publish his first novel.
He said: “I have had short stories published, which won literary prizes.
“I also wrote a novel which was well-received, but I decided not to publish and to learn how to write screenplays for TV and film as my natural writing style is very cinematic and visual.
“My initial screenwriting break came with being signed by successful TV, film and theatre literary agent Rod Hall, who tragically died soon after.
“I carried on writing for the screen but decided to come full-circle and adapt a pilot script and series bible for TV into a novel, which became Andromono.”
G C allowed his fellow members of the Gay Authors’ Workshop to read his manuscript before submitting the Andromono for publication.
And it was their positive reviews and encouragement that convinced him to finally launch himself as a novelist.
Andromono, which is set in the 23rd century, is a thought-provoking and gripping study into gender, religion and class.
The science fiction masterpiece is set in a world that has been ravaged by religious and resource wars.
G C’s book follows the fortunes of andro-woman Mena, who decides to defy the androgynous ruling elite’s ban on natural reproduction by having a real baby.
G C explained: “I got the idea for Andromono from wanting to write a turn of the tables piece set in the future that didn’t take issues of gender and sexuality for granted, as with most sci-fi, especially written by men.
“What if an androgynous elite takes over and persecutes traditional men and women?
“In Andromono society is now ruled by an androgynous, multi-sexual elite who set out to create a utopian post-gender, antitheist, and anti-family society.
“However, this increasingly slides into a dystopian reality.”
Following the positive response he’s received for Andromono, G C is currently working on a sequel.
