Pressbox (Press Release) - After spending her working life protecting children, new South Wales author T. K. Jenkins is now entertaining them.
The 54-year-old former social worker has just released her debut novel, Lydia Rose and the Annals of Veena to critical acclaim.
Her edge-of-the-seat fantasy story has already attracted a lengthy string of five-star reviews from captivated readers.
And it even inspired one 11-year-old girl to dress up as the main character for World Book Day at her school.
Lydia Rose and the Annals of Veena has been described by reviewers as ‘awesome’, ‘best book I’ve ever read’ and ‘left us wanting more’.
One critic stated: “Great for fans of the C.S. Lewis children’s books.”
Although grandmother Tracey, who writes as T K Jenkins, retired from her role as a children’s social worker last year, she still wants to engage with them through her writing.
She said: “I gifted copies of Lydia Rose and the Annals of Veena to the local library as I want every child to have an opportunity to read my book if they wish.
Tracey added “Reading is so important for children as it can benefit their education, develop empathy, which helps their social development, while also enhancing their imagination”.
Lydia Rose and the Annals of Veena follows the fortunes of a young girl whose world is turned upside down after she is presented with a sacred stone while visiting a castle.
Lydia soon finds herself transported to a magical world where a quest to save its inhabitants awaits.
Tracey’s adventure novel is packed with thrills, spills and memorable characters as her protagonist manoeuvres her way through the enchanted land.
Tracey added: “I have always loved castles and Celtic mythology, as well as adventure stories where there are lots of plot twists.
“I’ve always been imaginative and had thought about writing a children’s book 30 years ago.
“But my career became my focus and raising my four children who are now all adults, so I didn’t begin to write Lydia Rose and the Annals of Veena until two years ago.
“Like any children’s fantasy I wanted to create good against evil.”
Following the successful release of Lydia Rose and the Annals of Veena, Tracey is currently writing a second book in a planned trilogy.
