Pressbox (Press Release) - For Christians, beyond the earthly goals, we live for the kingdom of God. What we do and believe in should reflect our path towards the final destination. Consequently, we become born again and read the scriptures for guidance. In addition, we must also repent our sins. After all, the bible on so many occasions asks us to do so. However, sometimes we forget the repentance part. Turning away from sin and the earthly way of living life is hard but hopefully, this piece will help.
To begin with, repenting helps one lead a life of righteousness. This saves us from damnation as per Matthew 3:10, trees producing bad fruits shall be cut down and thrown into the fire to burn. The message translates to our lives. Therefore bear fruits worthy of repentance (Matthew 3:8). Automatically, staying true to the gospel and constantly seeking honest repentance will result in a righteous life-…times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord…, Acts 3:19.
Secondly, repentance directly links to the kingdom of God for which should be Christians’ main goal- Matthew 6:33. Mark 1:14-15, Matthew 3:2, and Matthew 4:7 are some of the scriptures that provide proof of this statement. In light of this, Jesus and the prophets continued to preach repentance so as people would get to enjoy eternal life (Luke 5:32). Jeremiah had a similar message as well in Jeremiah 25:4-5. As such, you must be willing to repent your sins, besides salvation, to enter the kingdom of God and escape damnation. (Ezekiel 18:30-31, Luke 13:3).
Thirdly, our job as Christians is to continue with the Lord’s work as stated in Matthew 28:18-20. We, therefore, need to be free of sins and evil mind in order to preach repentance and remission of sins to all. Additionally, repentance paves way for the Holy Spirit to take root in our hearts and soul. (Acts 2:38)

Another reason why repentance is important is that this was a gift from God. (Acts 5:31, Acts 11:18). Simply, view this as an opportunity to further distance yourself from Adam’s mistake that introduced sin to the world. If you recall Romans 3:23, you will see how essential this gift of repentance is.

Finally, repentance helps us grow spiritually and emotionally. Having the weight of guilt from our transgressions lifted, purifies us.. In essence, Christians must be willing to follow their faith and do what it takes to obey God and His teachings to finally get to witness the kingdom of God. And through repentance, we are well on this path.
