After a #15 Debut on the Apple Music UK chart in 2023 Veteran MC NDEFRU Upcycles 20-Year-Old Album with NDEPENDENT FRUITION

Several weeks after a head trauma-inducing car accident and a devastating split from his partner in crime, veteran MC NDEFRU began working on music under a new alias that would ultimately mark a major creative turning point.
For nine years, he had been building a label centered around Nuwaupian literature, his fashion brand ANGUAFO, and sordid street tales, some based in reality. The movement grew larger than even he had imagined within the street life.
One night after trapping on Richmond's Northside, he awoke to find his car license plates stolen. Annoyed but unfazed, the incident did not necessarily register as a warning. Confident enough to return to the same location with new plates, he continued as usual.
The following weeks would bring a string of escalating setbacks. The replacement plates were stolen again. The car tires disappeared. Eventually, he found himself locked up in East Baltimore after spending a night chained to a hospital gurney.
The recordings collected on NDEPENDENT FRUITION reflect the emotions born from that harrowing period. The project captures the uncertainty, pressure, and transformation that followed, while documenting the new direction he felt compelled to take as an artist.
That chapter marked the retirement of Cherokee Billz and the emergence of NDEFRU.
"This is my backstory."
