Kopa Studio Launches POIS, Turning AirPods Into Quiet Posture Reminders
The new iPhone app finds an unexpected everyday use for headphone motion sensors, helping users notice when their head stays down without cameras, extra wearables or constant notifications.
Most people know their AirPods can play music, take calls and adapt sound to their surroundings. Fewer think of them as a way to become more aware of how they hold their head.
POIS, a newly launched iPhone app from independent European developer Kopa Studio, explores that overlooked capability. Using motion sensors already built into compatible AirPods, the app notices when someone's head remains tilted down relative to their natural forward position and plays a quiet reminder through their headphones.
The idea begins with an ordinary problem: losing awareness of the body during moments of concentration.
A person opens their laptop to answer an email. One task becomes another. An hour later, they may have barely noticed how long they have been looking down. The same thing can happen while reading a phone, studying or becoming absorbed in a project.
POIS takes a deliberately restrained approach to that experience. Rather than trying to enforce an ideal posture or continuously evaluate the user, it offers a small moment of awareness when their head has remained lowered.
A different use for familiar hardware
Compatible AirPods contain motion sensors capable of tracking head orientation, a capability also used for features such as head-tracked Spatial Audio.
POIS uses these signals during an active session. Users put on compatible headphones, open the app and briefly look forward in a natural position. That establishes a personal reference point.
They can then lock their iPhone and continue their day. Music and podcasts remain available while POIS runs in the background.
A brief glance at a message is not supposed to trigger a reminder. When the head remains lowered for longer, however, POIS can play a discreet audio cue. Once the user looks up, the app returns to silence.
There is no camera watching the user, no additional posture-monitoring device to purchase and no need to keep checking the screen.
Designed to interrupt less, not more
POIS also challenges a familiar convention in wellness apps: turning every activity into a score.
It does not grade the user's posture or assign a daily perfection target. Instead, it shows simple session information and focuses on whether a reminder can fit naturally into an ordinary day.
The design reflects a broader idea behind the product: helpful technology does not always need to demand attention. Sometimes its value comes from knowing when to stay quiet.
The developers also distinguish head-position awareness from medical posture assessment. AirPods can provide information about head orientation, but they cannot directly measure the spine, shoulders or overall posture. POIS is not a medical device and does not claim to diagnose, treat or prevent neck or back conditions.
A small application of technology people already own
POIS arrives as headphones increasingly contain sensors and computing capabilities beyond audio playback. Its approach demonstrates how existing consumer hardware can be repurposed for simple, context-aware experiences without adding another wearable.
The app is designed for situations such as desk work, studying and walking, where people may appreciate an occasional reminder without having to interrupt what they are doing.
POIS is now available for iPhone on the Apple App Store. It requires compatible AirPods or supported Beats headphones with head-motion capabilities. The app supports seven languages and offers optional monthly and yearly subscriptions, with a three-day trial for eligible new subscribers.
