Ukraine War Profiteers: William Aaron Turner's Useful Idiots Names the Western Politicians, Pundits and Firms Who Profit
Ukraine war profiteers: William Aaron Turner's Useful Idiots traces Western lawmakers, retired generals and pundits who, he argues, profit from the war.
WASHINGTON, DC, October 31, 2026 - Ukraine war profiteers are the subject of "Useful Idiots: A Guide to the Western Profiteers of the Ukraine War," a new special file in The Ukraine Files by William Aaron Turner, president of Infinitum Corporation. The paper argues that the people who decide whether the war continues are often the same people who profit from its continuation.
"This paper is about them. The Useful Idiots," Turner writes, describing Western politicians, retired generals, cable news pundits, arms company executives and intelligence officials. "These useful idiots are paid. Very well paid. They are not useful because they are stupid - they are useful because they are compromised."
Turner states that most of the material has been published by Western outlets including The Guardian, The Intercept, Bloomberg, The Lever and Responsible Statecraft. "I will not pretend to be neutral," he writes, adding that the paper "will cite its sources" and "will distinguish between speculation and documented fact." He introduces the cast with: "Fuck it, let us begin. Let us meet the Useful Idiots."
What the file covers
Congress and stock trading: The paper examines congressional stock portfolios and defense-contractor trades, drawing on Business Insider, Quiver Quantitative and Responsible Statecraft reporting. Citing Quincy Institute data, it says 50 members of Congress traded between $24 million and $113 million worth of Pentagon contractor stocks in 2024. It names Marjorie Taylor Greene's Lockheed Martin purchase two days before the full-scale war (her spokesperson said her husband made it), Earl Blumenauer's Raytheon purchase on February 24, 2022, and trades by Markwayne Mullin, Kevin Hern and Josh Gottheimer, and calls Lindsey Graham "The Senator from Boeing," citing OpenSecrets data that the defense sector gave him $1.1 million between 1993 and 2024.
The revolving door: Citing a 2023 Quincy Institute report, the paper says that of 32 four-star military officers who retired between June 2018 and July 2023, 26 went on to work for the arms industry. It profiles former Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin's Raytheon board earnings of at least $1.4 million, General Mark Milley's post-retirement roles, quoting him: "I spent my career in a socialist organization... I'm just settling into capitalism," and Admiral James Stavridis's role at the Carlyle Group.
Undisclosed pundits: A report by The Lever from April 2022, the paper says, found that CNN, MSNBC and NBC News failed to tell viewers that many expert guests calling for more support to Ukraine were employed by the defense industry or its advocates.
The British connection: The paper cites Guardian reporting that former Prime Minister Boris Johnson received a 1 million pound donation from Christopher Harborne, described as the largest single shareholder in defense company QinetiQ.
The European Union: It covers the NATO Support and Procurement Agency bribery scandal and the July 31, 2025 suspension of Elbit Systems, and reviews German MEP Fabio De Masi's January 2026 lawsuit at the EU General Court over Ursula von der Leyen's contacts with arms manufacturers.
Intelligence and leaked weapons: Citing The New York Times and L'Express, the paper describes CIA, MI6 and DGSE support for Ukraine's intelligence services. It cites a Pentagon Inspector General finding that officials could not account for 40,000 weapons, and Tucker Carlson's claim that "more than 50% of the weapons that the United States sends to Ukraine are sold on the black market," noting that Western fact-checkers dispute it.
Ukraine and the arms market: Further chapters cover the Fire Point drone company, Mike Pompeo's November 2025 appointment to its advisory board, the "Mindich tapes" and Operation Midas, Hunter Biden's Burisma board seat (the article notes the allegations against Joe Biden "were never proven"), and defense stocks that, per the Quincy Institute analysis cited, surge during military conflicts.
Turner's conclusion
The paper closes with Turner's verdict on the system he describes: "The useful idiots have won. They have turned war into a business. They have turned death into a stock. They have turned patriotism into a scam." He dedicates the paper "to the people of Ukraine" and to "the soldiers who died for the profit margins of men they will never meet."
The file includes a full reference list so readers can check each claim against its source. The conclusions are Turner's own argument.
